Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited is a Japanese pharmaceutical company headquartered in Tokyo, founded in 1781 in Osaka as a medicine wholesaler by Chobei Takeda, making it one of the oldest continuously operating pharmaceutical companies in the world. It is the largest pharmaceutical company in Japan and one of the largest in Asia, and it substantially expanded its global footprint through its 2019 acquisition of the Irish-headquartered biopharmaceutical company Shire.
