Shake Shack is an American multinational fast casual restaurant chain known for hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, milkshakes and frozen custard, which grew out of a hot dog cart that restaurateur Danny Meyer opened in New York's Madison Square Park in 2001 before it became a permanent stand in 2004. Headquartered in New York City, the chain has expanded to more than 400 locations in 19 countries including the United States, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom and Mexico. Shake Shack went public in January 2015, with its stock price rising sharply on its first day of trading.
