Robinhood Markets, Inc. is an American financial services company based in Menlo Park, California. It was founded in April 2013 by Vladimir Tenev and Baiju Bhatt, two former Stanford classmates who had earlier built high-frequency trading platforms for financial institutions in New York City. The company runs an electronic trading platform that lets customers trade stocks, exchange-traded funds, options, futures, event contracts on prediction markets and cryptocurrency, and it also offers cryptocurrency wallets, wealth management, credit cards and other banking services, some through partner banks insured by the FDIC. It operates a venture capital arm and an independent media subsidiary, Sherwood.News. Its platform is available in the United States and the United Kingdom, and in the European Union for crypto and tokenized assets. Its cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp holds licenses in several jurisdictions. The company does not allow trading in mutual funds, bonds or preferred stocks.
