Polyface Farm is a five hundred acre farm in Swoope, Virginia, established in 1961 and run by Joel Salatin and his family using rotational grazing and pasture based methods intended to enhance agriculture emotionally, economically and environmentally. The farm raises pastured poultry, grass fed cattle, pigs, turkeys, rabbits and laying hens, moving mobile shelters and trailer style eggmobiles across pasture so each species follows the last and spreads fertility naturally. Salatin calls the approach stacking, layering several farm enterprises on the same land, and the farm sells its meat and produce directly to consumers through an on site store, restaurant partnerships and nationwide shipping.
