The Plymouth, Devonport and South Western Junction Railway was an English railway company that built a main line between Lydford and Devonport in Devon, created to give the London and South Western Railway a more direct route into Plymouth than its existing lines allowed. The London and South Western Railway operated the main line under a revenue sharing agreement, while the Plymouth, Devonport and South Western Junction Railway itself managed the Callington branch, which it acquired from the East Cornwall Mineral Railway and converted from narrow to standard gauge, running from Kelly Bray to Calstock via Gunnislake. The company received parliamentary authorization in 1883 and 1884, began construction in 1887, and opened its main line to passenger traffic on 1 June 1890, with the Callington branch following on 2 March 1908. Under the Railways Act 1921 the company merged into the London and South Western Railway on 11 December 1922, which itself became part of the Southern Railway in 1923. The western section of the line between Bere Alston and Lydford closed in 1968, but the section from St Budeaux to Gunnislake remains open today as the Tamar Valley Line.
