Pizza Hut is an American multinational pizza restaurant chain founded in 1958 by brothers Dan and Frank Carney, who opened its first location in Wichita, Kansas while attending Wichita State University. The chain grew to nearly 20,000 restaurants worldwide, introduced its now iconic red roof building design in 1969, and was acquired by PepsiCo in 1977 before being spun off in 1997 into what became Yum! Brands. In 2026 Pizza Hut's worldwide business outside China was sold to LongRange Capital while Yum China retained the chain's mainland Chinese operations.
