The Peoria and Eastern Railway was a United States railroad incorporated on February 21, 1890 to build or acquire a line between Pekin, Illinois and Indianapolis, Indiana. The day after incorporation it acquired an existing railroad, purchased through foreclosure of the failed Ohio, Indiana and Western Railway, and almost immediately surrendered operating control to the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railway, known as the Big Four, becoming a predecessor entity within that larger system.
