Otto Group GmbH & Co. KGaA is a German retail company based in Hamburg that operates businesses worldwide across retail, e-commerce, financing, logistics and mail order. It was founded on 17 August 1949 when Werner Otto established Werner Otto Versandhandel, later known as Otto Versand, and his son Michael Otto expanded the company significantly after taking over leadership in 1981. In the 2023 financial year the group generated 16.2 billion euros in revenue across more than 100 companies with about 41,186 employees, with roughly 12 billion euros of that revenue coming from digital channels, making it one of the world's largest online retailers.
