Otsuka Holdings Co., Ltd. is a Japanese pharmaceutical and consumer products company headquartered in Tokyo, one of Japan's largest drugmakers. Its origins trace to 1921, when Busaburo Otsuka founded the Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory in Tokushima, Japan, which grew over the following decades into a diversified group spanning prescription pharmaceuticals and consumer health and nutrition products. Otsuka is known in pharmaceuticals for developing the antipsychotic drug aripiprazole, marketed as Abilify, one of the best-selling psychiatric medications of its era, and in consumer products for Pocari Sweat, a widely sold sports and hydration drink across Asia, giving the group a business that spans both prescription medicine and everyday consumer goods.
