Ooredoo Group is a Qatari multinational telecommunications operator headquartered in Doha, founded in 1987 as Qatar Telecom (commonly known as Qtel) and rebranded Ooredoo in 2013 to unify its growing portfolio of international operating companies under a single global identity. The Qatari state, through the Qatar Investment Authority, holds a substantial ownership stake in the group. Ooredoo operates or has operated mobile and fixed telecom businesses across the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia, with notable operating companies in Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Algeria, Tunisia, Iraq, the Maldives, Myanmar and Indonesia (Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison), making it one of the more geographically diversified telecom groups originating from the Gulf region.
