Oleane was one of the first internet service providers in France, created in 1989 from UUCP technology by Jean-Michel Planche and colleagues as an enterprise-focused internet operator. It grew to more than 2,900 customers by the mid-1990s before being acquired by France Telecom in March 1998 and merged into that company's Data Professional Division, ceasing to operate as an independent provider around June 2006.
