Occidental Petroleum Corporation, commonly known as Oxy, is an American energy company engaged in hydrocarbon exploration and production, incorporated in Delaware and headquartered in Houston, Texas. It was founded in Los Angeles in 1920, but its modern growth traces to 1957, when Armand Hammer took a controlling stake and became president and chief executive, expanding the company's operations through the 1960s into Peru, Venezuela, Bolivia, Trinidad and the United Kingdom. Oxy now concentrates its production in the Permian Basin of the United States and in the Middle East, including Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, producing about 1.4 million barrels of oil equivalent per day as of 2025. The company trades on the New York Stock Exchange as OXY and is a component of the S&P 500.
