Novartis is a Swiss multinational pharmaceutical corporation based in Basel, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world by revenue. It was formed in 1996 by the merger of Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz, at the time the largest corporate merger in history, and manufactures widely used drugs including Ritalin, Voltaren and the cancer treatment Gleevec, having later divested its agrochemical business as the independent spinout Syngenta.
