MOS Burger is a Japanese fast casual restaurant chain founded in 1972 by Atsushi Sakurada, its name standing for Mountain, Ocean and Sun, and headquartered in Tokyo. It is Japan's second largest fast food chain after McDonald's, distinguished by cooking food to order rather than preparing it in advance and by a strategy of locating restaurants in suburban areas to avoid high land costs in city centers, and it operates roughly 1,700 MOS Burger outlets along with related brands across East Asia, Southeast Asia and Oceania.
