Mahou San Miguel is a Spanish brewing group founded in 1890 in Madrid, originally named Hijos de Casimiro Mahou, fabrica de hielo y cerveza, by siblings Enrique, Luis and Carolina Mahou, with its first beer produced in 1891. In 2000 the company acquired full ownership of San Miguel from the Danone Group, becoming a wholly Spanish-owned brewing group that adopted the simplified Mahou San Miguel name in 2014, and it is now the leading brand in the Spanish beer market. Founder Casimiro Mahou Garcia also chaired Spain's Association of Beer Producers, founded in 1922, and the group has expanded internationally through craft-brewery acquisitions in the United States and India beginning in 2014.
