Latvian Railways, known as Latvijas dzelzcels, is the state-owned company responsible for managing the public railway infrastructure of Latvia, fully owned by the Latvian government through the Ministry of Transport. It was founded on September 2, 1991, and is considered the successor of the original Latvian State Railways company, established in 1919 and dissolved during the Soviet occupation of Latvia in 1940.
