The Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad is a Class III freight railroad based in Marquette, Michigan, offering service to nearby points in the Upper Peninsula. It was organized in 1893 as a subsidiary of the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company and began operations in 1896, primarily to carry iron ore from the Marquette Iron Range to Lake Superior docks. After merging with the Munising, Marquette and Southeastern Railway in 1923 it also began hauling pulpwood, and it continues to operate today, though over reduced track mileage.
