The Knickerbocker Ice Company was an ice company based in New York State during the 19th and early 20th centuries, founded in 1831 on the eastern bank of Rockland Lake in Congers and Valley Cottage, Rockland County. It harvested and distributed natural ice prized for its purity, consolidated from several smaller companies by 1855, and had become the largest ice company supplying New York City by 1882, at its peak operating dozens of steamboats and 75 ice barges. Competition from artificial refrigeration led the company to close to the public in 1924.
