Klepierre SA is a French real estate investment trust headquartered in Paris, one of the largest owners of shopping centres in continental Europe. It was founded in 1990, originally focused on office and warehouse real estate, before refocusing its strategy in the early 2000s specifically on shopping centre ownership across Europe. Klepierre owns and manages large shopping centres in France and across other European countries including Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and Central Europe, positioning its properties around anchor tenants and leisure and dining space intended to draw shoppers beyond pure retail. The French insurer BPCE, through its Simon Property Group predecessor stake history and other institutional shareholders, has held significant ownership positions in the company at various points, alongside the American mall operator Simon Property Group, which remains a substantial shareholder.
