Johnson & Johnson is an American healthcare company founded in 1886 in New Brunswick, New Jersey by brothers Robert Wood Johnson, James Wood Johnson and Edward Mead Johnson, initially manufacturing sterile surgical dressings. It grew into one of the largest healthcare companies in the world, historically organized around pharmaceuticals, medical devices and consumer health products such as Band-Aid and Tylenol, before spinning off its consumer health division as the separately listed company Kenvue in 2023 to focus fully on pharmaceuticals and medical technology.
