J. Lyons and Co. was a British restaurant chain, food manufacturing and hotel conglomerate founded in 1884 by Joseph Lyons and his brothers-in-law Isidore and Montague Gluckstein. The first Lyons teashop opened in Piccadilly, London, in 1894, and from 1909 the firm developed into a chain of teashops that became a staple of the British high street, at its peak numbering around 200 cafes. The firm also made cakes and pastries from 1894, and several Lyons cake products are still available on grocers shelves.
