Infineon Technologies AG is a German semiconductor company headquartered in Neubiberg, near Munich, one of the largest chipmakers in Europe and a global leader in power semiconductors and automotive chips. It was spun off from the electronics conglomerate Siemens AG in 1999, taking over Siemens' existing semiconductor division, and became an independently listed company. Infineon designs and manufactures chips used in automotive systems, industrial power control, and security applications, and it substantially expanded its automotive semiconductor business through its 2020 acquisition of the American chipmaker Cypress Semiconductor. The company operates its own chip fabrication plants in Germany, Austria, Malaysia and elsewhere and ranks among the largest suppliers of automotive semiconductors worldwide.
