In-N-Out Burger is a privately held American fast food chain founded in Baldwin Park, California in 1948 by Harry and Esther Snyder and still controlled by their granddaughter, Lynsi Snyder. Headquartered in Irvine, California, the chain has deliberately avoided franchising or going public, citing concerns about maintaining food quality and consistency during rapid expansion, and it operates 424 restaurants concentrated in California with expansion into neighboring states such as Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Texas and Oregon.
