Founded in Adelaide in 1856 as a saddlery manufacturer, it moved into the automotive field in 1898 and became a General Motors subsidiary in 1931. It was an automobile manufacturer, importer and exporter that sold cars under its own marque in Australia, headquartered in Port Melbourne with major industrial operations in South Australia and Victoria. Its own models included the Commodore, Caprice and Ute. The 164-year-old company ceased trading at the end of 2020, having switched to solely importing vehicles in its final three years.
