Originally a brand only, owned by distributor De Kikvorsch in Deest and brewed at the Arcense Stoombierbrouwerij in Arcen, it played a major role in the revival of Dutch beer culture in the early 1980s; it became part of the international Interbrew group in 1995 and was renamed Hertog Jan Brouwerij in 1998.
