H & M Hennes & Mauritz AB, commonly known as H&M, is a Swedish multinational clothing retailer headquartered in Stockholm, founded in 1947 by Erling Persson, who opened a women's clothing store called Hennes before merging with the hunting equipment retailer Mauritz Widforss in 1968 to form the company's current name. Built on a fast fashion business model that brings runway-inspired styles to stores quickly and at low prices, H&M has grown into one of the largest fast fashion retailers in the world, operating thousands of stores across dozens of countries alongside brands including COS, Monki, Weekday and Other Stories. The company has periodically partnered with high-profile fashion designers and luxury houses on limited-edition capsule collections to generate publicity around its mass-market retail model.
