Fuller's Brewery

Fuller's Brewery, based at the Griffin Brewery site in Chiswick, west London, was founded in 1845 by John Bird Fuller, Henry Smith and John Turner, building on John Fuller's earlier Griffin Brewery dating to 1816, and operated as the family-run Fuller, Smith and Turner PLC until 2019, when it sold its brewing operations to Japan's Asahi Breweries for 250 million pounds. The sale transferred the Griffin Brewery site and brands including Cornish Orchards and Dark Star Brewery to Asahi, which relocated headquarters to Woking, Surrey while committing to continue brewing at the historic Chiswick site, and the pre-sale company had owned more than 380 pubs, inns and hotels across southern England. Fuller's produces beers including London Pride, Chiswick Bitter and ESB, exported to about 80 countries, and its Griffin Brewery grounds hold what is described as the oldest wisteria plant in the United Kingdom, planted in 1816.
