Swedish multinational telecommunications company founded by Lars Magnus Ericsson in 1876 as a telegraph and telephone instrument repair workshop in central Stockholm. During the 1980s, a project at Ericsson's own Computer Science Laboratory, seeking language features that made telecommunications systems easier to program, led Joe Armstrong, Robert Virding and Mike Williams to develop the Erlang programming language there in 1986.
