EgyptAir is the flag carrier of Egypt, headquartered in Cairo with its hub at Cairo International Airport, and traces its founding to 1932, making it one of the oldest continuously operating airlines in the Middle East and Africa. The wholly state-owned carrier has served as Egypt's principal international gateway airline for decades, connecting Cairo to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and North America, and its Cairo hub benefits from Egypt's position as a major regional transit point. EgyptAir joined the Star Alliance in 2008, becoming that alliance's member representing Egypt and North Africa, and it operates alongside affiliated companies handling cargo, ground handling, catering and aircraft maintenance within the broader EgyptAir Holding Company group.
