Daiichi Sankyo Company, Limited is a Japanese pharmaceutical company headquartered in Tokyo, one of Japan's largest drug makers. It was formed in 2005 through the merger of two of Japan's oldest pharmaceutical firms, Sankyo Company and Daiichi Pharmaceutical, each with corporate histories reaching back to the early twentieth century. Daiichi Sankyo develops medicines across cardiovascular disease, infectious disease and, increasingly, oncology, and has become particularly prominent in recent years for its antibody-drug conjugate cancer therapies, several of which it co-develops and markets globally in partnership with the British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. The company operates research and manufacturing operations across Japan, the United States and Europe.
