Continental Resources, Inc. is an American oil and gas exploration and production company headquartered in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, one of the largest producers in the Bakken Shale formation of North Dakota and Montana. It was founded in 1967 by Harold Hamm, who began the company as a small independent driller and built it over more than five decades into a major shale oil producer, becoming closely associated with pioneering horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing techniques that unlocked large-scale Bakken production in the 2000s and 2010s. Continental also holds significant acreage in Oklahoma's SCOOP and STACK shale plays. Hamm and his family took the company private again in a buyout completed in 2023, ending its run as a publicly traded company.
