Consolidated Edison, Inc. is an American energy holding company headquartered in New York City, whose principal subsidiary, Consolidated Edison Company of New York, traces its roots to the New York Gas Light Company founded in 1823 and took its modern form through a 1936 consolidation of several New York utilities. Known widely as Con Edison, it supplies electricity, natural gas and steam to New York City and Westchester County, and its steam system is the largest commercial steam distribution system in the United States.
