Compagnie de Saint-Gobain S.A., known simply as Saint-Gobain, is a French multinational manufacturer headquartered near Paris, and one of the oldest continuously operating industrial companies in the world. It was founded in 1665 under King Louis XIV as a royal glassmaking manufactory, chartered to reduce France's reliance on Venetian glass and famously supplying the large mirrors used in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles. Over the following centuries the company diversified far beyond glass into a broad range of construction materials, and today Saint-Gobain is a major global producer of building materials, high-performance glass, insulation and other construction and industrial products. It operates manufacturing sites across dozens of countries and ranks among the largest building materials companies in the world.
