China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited is one of mainland China's three major state-controlled telecommunications operators, alongside China Mobile and China Telecom, formed in 1994 as China United Network Communications Corporation to break up the country's telecom monopoly. Headquartered in Beijing, it provides mobile voice and data, fixed-line broadband, and enterprise data services across China, and its shares trade in Hong Kong and, through its onshore listed vehicle, in Shanghai. The company underwent a major restructuring in 2008 when it absorbed China Netcom's fixed-line network, giving it a national footprint spanning both mobile and broadband infrastructure, and it has since worked closely with China Telecom on joint 5G network build-out to share infrastructure costs.
