The Central of Georgia Railway traces to the Central Rail Road and Canal Company, chartered in 1833 and reorganized under the Central of Georgia name in 1895. Headquartered in Savannah, Georgia, it operated across Georgia and Alabama. The Southern Railway purchased the company in 1963, and its successor was folded into Norfolk Southern Railway in 1982.
