Carling Brewery was founded in 1840 in London, Upper Canada (now London, Ontario) by Thomas Carling, who had settled there in 1818 and began selling his beer from a wheelbarrow before establishing a formal brewing operation. The brand became the United Kingdom's most popular beer by volume sold during the early 1980s, and by 2016 had reached global sales of 83.6 billion pints, with a long history as a major sponsor of European football competitions. Carling has passed through a series of mergers, including Canadian Breweries, Carling O'Keefe and Molson, and has been owned by Molson Coors Beverage Company since 2005.
