Caffe Nero is a coffeehouse chain founded in London in 1990 and expanded significantly after businessman Gerry Ford purchased the brand in 1997; Ford remains its majority owner and chief executive. Headquartered in London and describing itself as the largest independent coffeehouse group in Europe, the chain operates more than 1,000 coffee houses across eleven countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Poland, Cyprus, Croatia, Turkey and the United States, roasting its own coffee at a facility in Battersea, south London established in 2009.
