The Black Sand and Gold Recovery Company was an early twentieth-century mining enterprise based in Chicago, Illinois, and incorporated in Arizona with five million dollars in capital stock, organized to extract gold, iron, and other valuable minerals from Pacific Coast black sands using a patented magnetic separator invented by engineer Thomas J. Lovett. Established by physician and publisher Herbert A. Parkyn, Lovett, and businessman John H. McFarland, with a board that included representatives of Allis-Chalmers and the U.S. government's Lewis and Clark Exposition, the company dissolved in 1911 and reorganized as the American Placer Corporation.
