Berliner Pilsner is a beer brand produced in Berlin, Germany by Berliner-Kindl-Schultheiss-Brauerei, a division of the Radeberger Group, established in 1902 when Gabriel and Richter founded a small brewery with an adjoining beer garden. It became the dominant beer in East Berlin after 1969 nationalization folded it into East Germany state owned beverage conglomerate, and after German reunification in 1990 the brewery modernized and rebranded the beer in 1992 with new bottle designs and brewing technology to recapture market share. The Radeberger Group acquired the brewery in 2003 and consolidated it with its other Berlin area operations, and the beer, at 5.0 percent alcohol by volume, remains on sale today.
