Berkshire Hathaway Energy is an American energy holding company headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, a subsidiary of the conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway Inc. It was originally founded in 1989 as MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company, became majority owned by Berkshire Hathaway beginning in 1999 through investments led by Warren Buffett and Berkshire vice chairman Charlie Munger, and was renamed Berkshire Hathaway Energy in 2014. The company owns a portfolio of regulated electric and natural gas utilities, transmission networks and renewable energy generation assets across the United States and United Kingdom, including PacifiCorp and MidAmerican Energy Company.
