The Bavaria-St. Pauli Brewery was a German brewery in Hamburg formed in 1922 from the merger of two older breweries, Bavaria Brauerei AG, established in 1897, and St. Pauli Actien-Brauerei, established in 1862. Following its formation it acquired a dozen North German breweries, expanding its regional presence. Brau und Brunnen acquired the company in 1994, the city of Hamburg bought it in 1998 to prevent closure and then sold it to Holsten, which ceased operations at the facility in 2003; the brewery's Astra pale lager brand continues to be produced by Holsten.
