The Atlanta, Birmingham and Coast Railroad was formed in 1926 to operate freight and passenger service across Alabama and Georgia, connecting the northern endpoints of Atlanta and Birmingham with the southern ports of Brunswick, Waycross and Thomasville, and by 1944 it ran 639 miles of road over 836 miles of track. In 1946 it was merged into the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, becoming that company's Western Division.
