Asahi Breweries, now organized as Asahi Group Holdings, is a Japanese beverage company headquartered in Sumida, Tokyo, tracing to a predecessor established in 1889 and reorganized as Asahi Beer Co., Ltd. on September 1, 1949. It holds the largest beer market share in Japan, roughly 37 percent, ahead of Kirin and Suntory, and also controls a substantial share of the Australian beer market. The 1987 launch of Asahi Super Dry is credited with transforming the modern Japanese beer industry and driving the company's turnaround, and it is publicly traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
