American Homes 4 Rent

American Homes 4 Rent is an American real estate investment trust founded in 2012 by Public Storage founder B. Wayne Hughes to acquire, renovate and lease single-family houses as rental homes. It was formed in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis and the resulting wave of foreclosed single-family homes across the United States, a period in which several large investors moved into single-family rental housing as an institutional asset class for the first time at scale. The company owns and manages tens of thousands of single-family rental homes across the United States, a business model distinct from the apartment-building real estate investment trusts that had long dominated residential real estate investing.
