DVD-by-mail is a business model in which a company delivers DVDs and similar discs to customers by mail rather than through a rental storefront, with interaction between the renter and the company handled through the company's website using an e-commerce model. A customer typically chooses titles from an online list, adds them to a queue, and receives them as they become available, then mails each disc back once finished with it. The model arrived in time to compete with video rental shops, but both have largely been overtaken in developed countries by video-on-demand streaming, and formerly operating DVD-by-mail services such as Redbox are now defunct.
