William Hanna, born William Denby Hanna on July 14, 1910 and died on March 22, 2001, was an American animator, musician and voice actor. He worked at the Harman and Ising studio from 1930 and met Joseph Barbera while both were at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1937. Together they created Tom and Jerry, with Hanna supplying the vocal effects for the title characters, and in 1957 they co-founded the studio Hanna-Barbera, which became the most successful television animation studio of its time with programs such as The Flintstones, The Huckleberry Hound Show, Scooby-Doo and Yogi Bear. Taft Broadcasting bought the company in 1967, yet Hanna and Barbera stayed on as its heads until 1991, when it was sold to Turner Broadcasting System. He and Barbera won eight Emmy Awards between them.
