Walter Evans is the founder of the pet retailer Petco. In 1965 he founded a mail-order veterinary supplies business called UPCO in San Diego, California, and it was renamed Petco in 1979. The business began as a small operation selling veterinary supplies and grew into a pet food and supplies chain that is now the second largest pet retailer in the world, with veterinary clinics in its stores. One profile says that Evans should be recognised as one of the pillars of the pet care industry in the United States, because what started as a veterinary supplies business in the 1960s became a billion-dollar company with a presence in three countries across the Americas. Business reference pages list him as the company founder and the company as headquartered in San Diego.
