Russell Noftsker is an American entrepreneur who founded Symbolics, a computer company, and was its first chairman and president. He received a degree in engineering from New Mexico State University and in 1965 was hired by Marvin Minsky as the administrator of the Project MAC AI Group, later to become the AI Lab. He left the lab in 1973 but later returned, and he worked with the team of Lisp Machine developers to commercialize the technology. A year after differences over business strategy split the group from Richard Greenblatt in 1979, Noftsker and the rest of the group formed Symbolics Inc. He was forced out of the company by its board in early 1988.
