John Patrick Thornton, born in 1984, is an American business executive and the chief executive of Astrobotic Technology, which develops technology for lunar and planetary exploration. After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University he was recruited to Astrobotic by its founder Red Whittaker and was soon promoted to chief executive. Under his tenure the company secured several NASA contracts, including a 79.5 million dollar contract to deliver payloads to the Moon. The Pittsburgh Tech Council named him CEO of the Year in 2019. He grew up in Califon, New Jersey, and lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
