Bidzina Ivanishvili, born on 18 February 1956, is a Georgian businessman, politician and oligarch who is also known as Boris Grigoryevich Ivanishvili. He made his fortune in Russia in the 1990s, first selling computers and then acquiring banking and metals assets as the state privatized Soviet-era property. He left Russia in 2002 and became a French citizen. He is the richest man in Georgia, with wealth estimated at 7.6 billion dollars in 2024. He founded the Georgian Dream party in 2012, served briefly as prime minister until 2013 and has remained an influential figure since. The United States and several European Union countries sanctioned him in 2024.
